Ready to run your own venture fund?

At Rockstart we have a rare opportunity open as we’re looking for a fund manager for our next micro fund.

The fund will be in Emerging Tech and we’re looking for a seasoned entrepreneur to run it.

Getting into venture is normally like winning the lottery since venture funds only seem to hire people who are already working in venture. I think that’s the wrong approach, because european venture needs more experienced operators and entrepreneurs to become investors, rather than finance people who’ve never working on the floor.

At Rockstart the venture fund manager (whom we also call “Lead” and “Fund Partner”) is part of everything; raising the fund, selecting the investments, mentoring the teams and connect them with mentors and contacts to grow. You’d be working along side the fund managers in our other two micro funds (Energy and Agrifood) and with HQ. You’d have one or two people to assist you, it’s a lean startup organisation.

Rockstart invests early, often as the first investor. They invest across all geographies. Organisationally they are mainly European, with HQ in Amsterdam and a Copenhagen office from which this role can be based. Our microfunds are typically Euro 20-40 million, and we’ve already got some LP interest in this fund so therefore we’d like to get moving asap.

We’re looking from someone with an entrepreneurial background as a founder or CEO, with track record of growth and fund raising, from technology or software, who can coach founders and connect them with the right people. This is not a junior role, you need to have the CV to prove that you understand how to grow a tech company and are senior enough to negotiate with LPs.

If you want to hear more, see this. Applications don’t go to me, but to Rockstart’s CEO Rune Theill on rune@rockstart.com

I normally don’t share job openings but this one is rare and I know many entrepreneurs who might be wanting to make to switch to become f/t investors. I sit on the board of Rockstart Enterprise, the mother company.
